This region is renowned for its high mountain passes, dramatic landscapes, and breathtaking beauty, often referred to as "paradise on earth." After check-in, you will have free time to acclimatize to this high-altitude destination, known as the cold desert of India.

  • Day 2: Explore Leh

Today, you will embark on a journey to explore the captivating city of Leh. Your itinerary includes a visit to the Shanti Stupa, a peace monument inaugurated by the Dalai Lama, and the Hall of Fame War Museum, subject to operational availability. Next, visit the historic Leh Palace, built in the 16th century by ruler Sengge Namgyal, which suffered significant damage during the Kashmir-Ladakh war. Enjoy views of the old town, the Zanskar mountains, and the Spituk Gompa (Gokhang). In the evening, if operationally feasible, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional folk dance performance.

  • Day 3: Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La Pass

In the morning, you will drive to Nubra Valley, also known as Dumra, situated to the north of Leh. The journey takes you over the Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable roads in the world, at an elevation of 5,359 meters. Upon arrival, visit Diskit Monastery, the oldest and largest monastery in Nubra Valley, celebrated for its stunning architecture and intricate frescoes. Here, you will also see the impressive 108-foot statue of Future Buddha. As you pass by the Shyok River, you will arrive in Nubra Valley, renowned for its pristine natural beauty, stunning lakes, and flourishing apricot orchards. If time permits, you may choose to engage in optional activities such as quad biking or riding Bactrian camels at an additional cost.

  • Day 4: Nubra Valley to Turtuk Village and Back

Today, you will take an excursion to Turtuk Village, where you will experience a significant shift in landscape, culture, language, and attire, marking your entry into the Baltistan region. Captured by the Indian Army during the 1971 war, Turtuk is the last village in Ladakh near the Line of Control (LOC) and serves as a gateway to the Siachen Glacier. After exploring Turtuk, you will return to Nubra Valley in the evening.

  • Day 5: Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake

Your journey continues as you travel to Pangong Tso, the most popular lake in the Ladakh region. Known for its high altitude, the lake exhibits a mesmerizing transformation of colors, shifting from shades of blue to green. While the brackish water supports minimal aquatic life, it serves as an essential breeding ground for various migratory birds. The lake stretches over 100 kilometers, extending from India into China and Tibet. Overnight accommodation will be arranged at Pangong.

  • Day 6: Pangong Lake to Leh

After breakfast, proceed back to Leh. Upon your return, visit Shey Palace, a former summer retreat for the kings of Ladakh, along with the Indus River. You will also explore Hemis Gompa, one of the largest and wealthiest monasteries in the region, and, if operationally feasible, visit the famous Rancho School.

  • Day 7: Leh to Kargil via Likir and Alchi

Begin your day with visits to Magnetic Hill, Pathar Sahib Gurudwara, and the Indus-Zanskar Sangam, followed by a journey to the Moon Land area. Continue your drive to Alchi Gompa, which is notable for its unique paintings attributed to the mid to late 11th century, constructed by the renowned translator Rin-chen bzang po. The Alchi Chos-khor features characteristic artwork reminiscent of the Tabo and Tholing styles. Arrive in Kargil for overnight accommodation.

  • Day 8: Kargil to Leh via Drass and Lamayuru

After breakfast, visit the Kargil War Museum at Drass, subject to operational availability. This region is known as the second coldest inhabited place in the world. Proceed over Fotu La (4,087 meters), the highest pass on the Leh-Srinagar road, and visit the Lamayuru Monastery, one of the oldest in Ladakh, known for its stunning views of the unique granite-colored soil rocks. Arrive back in Leh for the night.
