Arrive in Leh, the largest city and capital of the Kingdom of Ladakh, renowned for its high mountain passes, dramatic landscapes, and breathtaking beauty, often referred to as "paradise on earth." Upon your arrival, you will have free time to acclimatize to the high-altitude environment, commonly known as the cold desert of India.
Dedicate your day to exploring the captivating city of Leh. Begin your journey at the Shanti Stupa, a peace monument inaugurated by the Dalai Lama, offering serene views of the surrounding landscape. Experience the unique phenomenon of Magnetic Hill and visit the revered Pathar Sahib Gurudwara. Witness the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers at the Indus-Zanskar Sangam, followed by a visit to the Hall of Fame War Museum, contingent upon operational availability. In the evening, enjoy a traditional folk-dance performance, also subject to operational availability.
In the morning, enjoy a scenic drive to Nubra Valley (Dumra) via the iconic Khardung La Pass (5,359 m), one of the highest motorable roads in the world. En route, visit the ancient Diskit Monastery, home to a 108-foot statue of the Future Buddha and stunning frescoes. Continue along the Shyok River to explore Nubra’s natural beauty, lakes, and apricot orchards. Optional activities like quad biking or Bactrian camel rides can be enjoyed at your own cost.
Today, you will embark on an excursion to Turtuk Village. As you cross into this region, you will notice significant changes in the landscape, culture, language, clothing, and even the physical features of the local population, marking your entry into the Baltistan region. Captured by the Indian Army during the 1971 war, Turtuk is the last village in Ladakh near the Line of Control (LOC) and serves as a gateway to the Siachen Glacier. After a day of exploration, return to Nubra Valley in the evening.
Travel to Pangong Tso, the most renowned lake in the Ladakh region. Situated at a high altitude, the lake is famous for its ever-changing colors, transitioning from shades of blue to green. Although the brackish water is devoid of significant aquatic life, it serves as an important breeding ground for various migratory birds. The lake stretches over 100 kilometers, extending from India into China and Tibet. Overnight accommodation will be arranged at Pangong.
After breakfast, proceed back to Leh. Upon your arrival, you will visit Shey Palace, a former summer retreat for the kings of Ladakh, as well as the picturesque Indus River. Explore Hemis Gompa, one of the largest and wealthiest monasteries in the region, and visit the famous Rancho School, subject to operational availability.
